Grand boat

  LOW KEY, LUCKY DAY July 26, 2024 Block Island  We found the key of the dinghy that we lost five days ago, yeah!   After a dinghy ride Bob and Deb are packing and going home. We wish "Sans Souci" a no worries trip, that's what the name of their boat means. Then we go to the beach and make plan to to go to Montauk for the last day of our vacation.  On our usual walk to the west side of the island we can see Montauk lighthouse.  Peekaboo I got you. Bob had a better ride home than coming in.  Deb sent a picture of the race. Wow that's smooth for the race! Our new friends from New Jersey made it to Atlantic Highlands, the sound was rough in Port Jefferson. Brian said that Dillon creek near them is extraordinary. I got used to this. I'm a little sad that we are leaving tomorrow. 

A HIKE, A BEACH AND A DRINK OR TWO July 25, 2024 Deb, Scott and I go for a hike at 7.  We go to Dories Cove.  It's beautiful and calm.  We think of Bryan and Leisa going to Port Jefferson today and it looks like that they will have a smooth ride.  We see a seal but I miss the picture. Then we go to Scotch Beach.  Bob comes even though he doesn't like swimming in the ocean.  Deb is the first to go in.  Scott and Bob play vortex football. Scott has fun boogie boarding.  I fall asleep on my beach towel, the hike took a lot out of me. Back at Boat Bassin Bob makes us mudslide, delicious.  We walk to Payne's and see that Freddy Joe is still in first place.   We try to have a drink at Mahogany Shoals but the waitress ignores us so we go to "The Oar" for wings.   Scott is the first one to go back to the boat.  He text Deb, Bob and me for a game of Set Back.    BOB AND DEB'S ARRIVAL July 24, 2024 Block Island Scott waited for 2 hours in the rain at the entry of Great Salt Pond before seeing Sans Souci.  Our friends had a rough ride but they made it in one piece and in good spirit. Meanwhile I go to the Farmer's Market to get corn and string beans but they didn't have any.  So I went to the fish market.  I cook one corn on the cob in the microwave but the electricity shut off after a minute or so.  The red light that says reverse polarity comes on. Scott get scared when he sees that and asks for help from the marina.  It looks like the demand from the microwave and maybe the rain made a spark... at the dock outlet.  They loan us an electric cord.  We have a spare one at home.  It seems OK now but we were scared for a while. With Deb and Bob we walk to Payne's to see big fishes.  They see a dock mate that caught a 246 lbs. tuna and are the current first place.  The name of their boat...

  GREY DAY July 23, 2024 Block Island A grey day on our favorite place is still a great day. I went to the bathroom in the middle of the night and half asleep I noticed a tower 😆. Oh yeah that's the huge sailboat at Payne's. I didn't take a picture of it when we digned by yesterday but Lisa did. This is Lisa and Brian Boutilier on their Crownline named "Two of us".  What a nice couple they are.  We walk to town and have lunch at Ballard's. Scott enjoys his pepperoni bread and I my clams and linguine. This is the most beautiful clams and linguine I've ever seen and the most delectable.   The sauce was divine.  I had to contain myself from slurping it out of the bowl 😆. The service was also excellent. Miss G from South Africa was very nice.  In the afternoon we go to Scotch Beach relying on the forecast that calls for some sun.  That doesn't happen. FIRST DAY OF THE FISHING TOURNAMENT  July 23, 2024 Block Island  We get up at 4, walk to the breakwall to see the departure at 5. The seal must be wondering what's going on this morning.    Note to self: next time bring bug spray. Black crowned night heron. The moon is all there. And so is the sun. Breakfast at Payne's.  It is high tide and we explore the salt ponds that Kim the nature guide suggested. Here's a tiny baby crab.  Then we go to Scotch Beach and walk to town and turn around. Back at the marina, we grill kielbasa and potatoes for lunch. In the afternoon we try to find the key of the dinghy with no success.  Scott makes new friends by helping somebody with their dinghy motor issues. His name is Emilio, he is from Cuba, his wife is Lenore.  They have their boat in Groton and wants to change marina.  Scott talked about Silver Spring in Wakely.  They're going to check it out.
