Beautiful ride from Montauk to Deep River

BEAUTIFUL RIDE FROM MONTAUK TO DEEP RIVER

July 28, 2024


We are under way at 5:30.


Now that's sea glass.


The channel is very narrow, it is privately marked and a little hard to see, with a sharp turn.  You really have to pay attention.

We tried to make a reservation and got deny at the last minute.  Scott thinks that they don't want us there.  We're too little for them.  That's ok we don't want to be there either. We walked in their land yesterday and didn't feel belonging.  We were well anchored.

The sun behind the clouds,  shining on still water afar, so beautiful. 


Taking a picture of the coffee pot, also know as Orient Point Lighthouse is not an easy task.

We avoided the Race by going to Montauk but now we have to cross Plum Gut.  Actually it's not too bad and is just about 5 minutes of our trip.




We are at the mouth of Connecticut River at 7.
So 1h.30 from Montauk Lake anchorage area. 



We love early rides, not only the seas are smoother, the river crowd is not there yet.

We get 60 gallons of gas at Essex, Scott is afraid to not to make it to Deep River.





We are in Deep River at 8h.10. So without stopping for gas it takes 2h.30.

We do a good landing despite the tide going out with the current very strongly.  Good job Captain and first mate.

Side by side with SeaTow

  Captain Ben of Sea Tow Eastern Connecticut comes to the rescue at 9:16. Side by side, that's how they get boats out of a slip.  It makes sense but I never realized that. It's gonna be a long ride back. Well it's actually pretty relaxing. The sound is so calm. We cannot help to recall our 2 friends John and Toolman who were towed from Sag Harbor in rough seas.  So rough that the line snapped. John had to hook another one.  He couldn't walk on the bow so he went through the top hatch.  How scary!  Our adventure is way more mellow.  We are listening to our favorite music, Stephen Kellog and enjoying the view. So nice! So pretty! Even  New London is calm, New London is always choppy. We can see Long Island. Captain Ben is letting us go now In Hatchett Reef Captain Tom of Sea Tow Central Connecticut is taking us over. Day 7

DAY 7 ON THE ISLAND,   July 20, 2024 Block Island  Scott wakes up a 3:30.  When he sees me moving he proposes a walk to Rodman Hollow which was our plan yesterday.   I said "I need a shower".  Scott:"yeah!".Good thing we did because soon after they shutt off the water for some digging.  After his too short night Scott gives up on the hike and goes back to sleep (night workers understand that).  I go to the Farmer's Market and get blueberries, lettuce and cucumbers. When Scott wakes up he goes and gets coffee. Then I make a sandwich for me and a wrap for Scott and we go to Coast Guard Beach. We stay there 6h.   Boats are coming in all day long. Scott finishes reading his book so I can read it. We walk pass the channel and look west at the open ocean in the direction of Montauk. We're thinking of going soon, it's not very far.  We can't see it though.   Seeing the seaweed I recall learning during the nature walk that they are a hiding place for many se
