Side by side with SeaTow

Image
Captain Ben of Sea Tow Eastern Connecticut comes to the rescue at 9:16. Side by side, that's how they get boats out of a slip.  It makes sense but I never realized that. It's gonna be a long ride back. Well it's actually pretty relaxing. The sound is so calm. We cannot help to recall our 2 friends John and Toolman who were towed from Sag Harbor in rough seas.  So rough that the line snapped. John had to hook another one.  He couldn't walk on the bow so he went through the top hatch.  How scary!  Our adventure is way more mellow.  We are listening to our favorite music, Stephen Kellog and enjoying the view. So nice! So pretty! Even  New London is calm, New London is always choppy. We can see Long Island. Captain Ben is letting us go now In Hatchett Reef Captain Tom of Sea Tow Central Connecticut is taking us over. I guess it is a little suspicious asking to be rescue from a slip.  Scott was told that there's a limit of 25 miles.  But after talking to us, Captain To

Joël and Chantal in Mystic

Joël and Chantal in Mystic They came yesterday in Van Go and slept in the parking lot.  Chantal made us crêpes and she had apple muffins for breakfast. Yum! Then we go for a boat ride around Ram Island with the intention of maybe anchoring and swimming.  Well we lose the power steering.  Captain Scott is able to idle back to the marina but docking is challenging.  The plan was to bow in but we end up to stern in.  Captain does a good job and first mate too 😀.  Scott opens the hatch and sees the belt fell off.  After some research, some touching, some chatting and a phone call, so far the diagnosis is we need a new water pump. Thank you Joël and Tim for your help. Scott arranges an appointment with SeaTow tomorrow morning.  We can enjoy the rest of our day.  Mystic is not a bad place to get stuck.  Thank God it didn't happen when we were out in Long Island Sound. We cannot ride the grand boat so we go on the little one 😉. "Il était un petit navire"  🎵  Chantal remind

We're crazy

Scott worked last night. He slept a couple of hours, if so, then at 7 he is out the door to the boat 🚢..  I got up at 3:30 made an Asian pasta salad and salsa and I'm following Scott at 7:13. The marina is 45 minutes away from our house. At 8:26 Grand Boat is loaded and on the way to Mystic. No time for a coffee, just a bar and water for me. Cold black coffee for Scott. They say if boating interfers with your job then take a day off.  We tried but it didn't work 😆. We were minded so here we are. The Connecticut River is calm with no fog. Chasseur in Old Saybrook  There's always a yatch there. Long Island Sound looks good Very little fog, visibility is good Just a bit eerie Every ride is different. It is not perfectly smooth but it is calm enough for me to take that picture.  That says a lot. There is a light swell and wind. At 9:55 we are at the mouth of Mystic River. We're crazy but not dangerous 😆

Evey, 82 drove 2 hours from Pleasantville, NY to come for a visit.  She got me a t-shirt.  Thanks Evey! Mel happened to be around from Florida so she came too. Scott and his two right wing girls. The Blue Cherry band was excellent with a great repertoire of songs from the eighties. A serious political conversation is going on between a lefty and a righty.  I tried to interupt with food but that didn't work.  Taking pictures worked way better 😆.  I don't think anybody changed their mind but I'm happy I witnessed a civil exchange of opinions between a democrate and a republican.  What a nice day we had.  The marina was lively like in the old days.

Visitors from Pennsylvania

VISITORS FROM PENNSYLVANIA  August 3, 2024 Hamburg Cove  Frank's family stopped by for the afternoon on their way back from New Hampshire to Pennsylvania. We had burgers and hot-dogs for lunch then they have to head home, a three hour and a half drive.  We went for a jetski ride with Craig and  the sky got thick with beautiful clouds. Then it rained all evening. Thanks for your visit Frank, Ashley, Gracy, Ally and Josie you made our day!
