First day of our 2 weeks vacation

First day of our 2 weeks vacation (June 25, 2022)


We were ready to leave at 5 O'clock and Ray, our guest, was right on time but it was foggy so we went have breakfast at Hally's jo.  We left around 7:15.



I don't know how many pictures we took of the Old Saybrook lighthouse. I don't get tired of it.

Approaching Watch Hill.  We enjoyed a smooth ride, what a beautiful day.  We said that to each other several times. The south westerly wind was 5 to 10 knots, that means it was blowing behind us, roughly.  We fell the push of the swell a time or two.


Arriving in Galilee, everyone is leaving.  We got gas at Point Judith Marina, 29 gallons, 160$ (it would have been 90$ last year).


We are staying at Silver Spring Marina in Point Judith, Rhode Island which was recently bought by Safe Harbor. It is our first time here.  Ray informed us that Safe Harbor bought it, that means that we can use some of our 12 free nights included in our Safe Harbor marina membership. We like it, it's a quaint little marina.  There's a pool, a clubhouse and only 79 slips.  The manager, Alex, came to the boat to welcome us and introduce himself.  We feel very comfortable and safe here.


Raw string beans, Chips and beer for lunch.  Ray's mom (Kathy) came to pick him up for a family weekend in a house they rent in Narragansett.  She stayed for a chat and we went for a dinghy ride. She's a very nice lady.  Her grandparents used to have a cottage here, she showed us where it was, it's a new house now.  


I swam a couple of laps before the sunset.  Life is good.

Side by side with SeaTow

  Captain Ben of Sea Tow Eastern Connecticut comes to the rescue at 9:16. Side by side, that's how they get boats out of a slip.  It makes sense but I never realized that. It's gonna be a long ride back. Well it's actually pretty relaxing. The sound is so calm. We cannot help to recall our 2 friends John and Toolman who were towed from Sag Harbor in rough seas.  So rough that the line snapped. John had to hook another one.  He couldn't walk on the bow so he went through the top hatch.  How scary!  Our adventure is way more mellow.  We are listening to our favorite music, Stephen Kellog and enjoying the view. So nice! So pretty! Even  New London is calm, New London is always choppy. We can see Long Island. Day 7

DAY 7 ON THE ISLAND,   July 20, 2024 Block Island  Scott wakes up a 3:30.  When he sees me moving he proposes a walk to Rodman Hollow which was our plan yesterday.   I said "I need a shower".  Scott:"yeah!".Good thing we did because soon after they shutt off the water for some digging.  After his too short night Scott gives up on the hike and goes back to sleep (night workers understand that).  I go to the Farmer's Market and get blueberries, lettuce and cucumbers. When Scott wakes up he goes and gets coffee. Then I make a sandwich for me and a wrap for Scott and we go to Coast Guard Beach. We stay there 6h.   Boats are coming in all day long. Scott finishes reading his book so I can read it. We walk pass the channel and look west at the open ocean in the direction of Montauk.
