A looonnnggg ride to Block Island July 16,2023

We left Deep River at 6:45 am, the parking lot was flooded.

We were supposed to leave Sunday and go to Pointe Judith first but decided to wait and let the river clear out the big debris from Vermont's devastating flooding.

Last Wednesday some docks with fingers and boats still attached were floating down the Connecticut River.

So today Tuesday,  we are going directly to Block Island. The marina is foggy but we think that it's gonna lift by the time we get to Long Island Sound...well it got worse when we got out of the no wake zone.

It got better and promising approaching Essex

Here's a selfie and report for my mom

I'm not good at selfies, I'm camera shy, Scott is even more and didn't want to be in it 😀

Here comes the sun.

The classic light house, the sun makes it bright, thanks 😊

Toodootoodootoodooo  is it a shark?

Nope it's a tree limb.  I wonder where are the docks with boats attached.

Bye-bye sun not welcome fog.

Should we use that... captain decides not to.
We think we go over some wakes but never see any boats.  We are hearing on the radio that everybody is idling (thank God).

When Scott see that we are at the race buoy, we can't see it. It is about 30f to our port side when we finally see it.
Then there is the race with its trouble water. The waves are pushing us south and Scott has to fight to go east.  We are turning in circle in some point and I am concern about my captain and the direction we are going.
Scott is close of panicking but keeo his bearings and start to look at the compass to make sure we are going in the right direction.

Good job captain Scott!  It is so good to see land and boats after 5 hours of solitude and visions of mountains, great ships, islands, lighthouses, sharks etc. It's hard to see on the picture but we know it is real this time. Here after zoomin:

As usual we anchor in the anchorage area and go by dinghy to Boat Basin to ask the dock master where to go.  We take the water taxi back (as usual he is not happy with the descrition of our boat location 😀) "we'll find it" he says finally with a smile though.  Oh boy he's a good boater! He always seems to approach the dock or the boat too fast then he reverses and makes a smooth "landing".
Once settled at our slip, which we like because it has the luxury of a finger, we go for a walk at Champlin's.

We sent a selfie to Melissa who is asking if we are arrived.

And one for my mom.
Then we go to Club Soda for dinner and karaoke. I have shrimps, it is delicious. We don't stay very long. I am very tired and drank a little too much.
