Our last day in Block Island

 

OUR LAST DAY IN BLOCK ISLAND 

July 23, 2026


Scott takes his usual walk with Immer at the BIMi.

We put the puggy down and walk to Champlin's. This is our favorite view of the mainland and the pond.





I'm texting with my brother in St-Pierre et Miquelon and sending a selfie.  It looks like we are on a fishing boat but we are on a dock.


That's the path between Boat Basin and Champlin's. We call it Toolman's way because our friend John (RIP) showed it to Scott back on our first trip here.


We walk to Ballard's for a drink or two and lunch.  We didn't get the mega chocolate and minth mudslide with Bailey's and Irish cream in it for 60$, but it does look decadent. We have patron margaritas and it was delicious. I have poke bowl with ahi tuna and Scott a burger.
Scott gets a t-shirt at Block Star. Then we go grocery shopping for beer and coffee.
We didn't get caught in the rain but in the heat.

Coast guard beach one more time. We enjoy every little bit of it.


Scott went in for a couple of minutes.  It starting to be chilly.


There's some kind of rendez-vous at Champlin's. 

We had a wonderful vacation.  We met wonderful people. Scott and Alison with whom we didn't spend enough time with because we were napping at different times 😆. But we had some interesting conversations here and there at the dock. David, Vicki and Shelby across the dock. They are from Calveton, NY. Dave went to the Vietnam War. They love their dog as much as we do.
Frank senior who lived in Wallingford for a while in his youth. Frank junior, a young retired NY firefighter. Dreida from Wallingford, cousin of a Scott's co-worker. 
I never met a person from South Africa.  We conversed with two of them during our vacation.  The bar tender at Ballard's was one of them.  He said people here don't know what poverty is. 
I know I feel privileged. 
Thank God for those two weeks.

  TODAY WE GO TO BLOCK ISLAND  July 13, 2026 7:00 o'clock : the beginning of our journey to Block Island.  The Sheperds, who we were concern about them getting up early are ahead of us... thanks to Scott the waker upper 😆. A blessed day in P.J.!

  A BLESSED DAY IN P.J.! Port Jefferson by ferry August 24, 2025 Today is the big day we have been waiting for all week. We are going  sailing on our friends' boat "Lively up".  Scott is so excited. 7:45 we are at Bridgeport Ferry Terminal, waiting for the ferry to arrive. Here it comes. Here's  the captain backing up the ship. Scott tells me that's where we were supposed to come for the Counting Crows concert.  At 9:11 we starting to see the Port Jeff landmark. The two towers. Here's a higher perspective of Conscience Bay where we were on Fourth of July.  That could be us... so little.... actually we are even littler. "Lively Up" is somewhere in there. That's where we land when we come with the digny from Conscience Bay.  When we arrived at 9:45, John and Debra are at the terminal, waiting for us. We're having brunch at  Joey Z's, it's delicious and the service is excellent. Scott really enjoys his chicken  parm with lemon pepper pot...

FOURTH DAY IN BLOCK ISLAND July 16, 2026  Scott takes a picture of the sunrise while taking Immer out for his business. Then back to bed.  We all sleep in this morning.  The three amigos. Mike comes by ferry. Scott and I have lunch with him at the Oar.  Tim joins us at the end.  He just got up, he wants breakfast.   Old friends. All of a sudden Tim feels restless and wants to do something. So he goes paddle boarding.  "Let's meet us at Champlin's" we say. He shows us the wrong direction so we correct him and watch  him go.  Marisa, Mike, Scott and I walk the beach there. No Tim. We have a drink and watch all around. After an hour we come back and here he is. Dude you showed me the wrong way, Ballard's is not over there. Scott and I : not Ballard's,  Champlin's.  Tim : Champlin's ooooh! Now I get it. Ribs for dinner. Thank you Tim for the meat and string beans. Thank you Mike for cooking. We contribute with pesto potatoes. ...
