Hiking the bottom of Clay Head Bluffs Block Island, July 3rd, 2022

Hiking the bottom of Clay head bluffs, Block Island, July 3rd, 2022

Big raft here on the great salt pond.

At 6:35 we were on dinghy Beach, taking picture of this white heron. The other day we saw an egret, they are similar but have black beak and legs.  By the way yesterday wordle word was egret, I found it in three trials.

We walked across corn neck road, went to Scotch Beach and took a left. Our big goal is to walk the entire circonference of the island, our today's  plan is to go to North Lighthouse.  We thought it would take 4 hours and we would go to the boat parade in Old Harbor but that didn't happen that way.

Here is Scotch Beach, we never ventured far there  but today we are determined. It is low tide, we know it will be rocky, we are a little scared because at some point there will be no turn around possible due to the high tide.

At 6:54 the sun is rising and we are in awe, there's beauties everywhere.

We thought we saw a ghost ship.

I see red, blue and white rocks, that gives me an idea...

By the way no ghost ship, just a fishing boat.

This is Clay Head Bluffs, the ones we were seing when arriving from Point Judith.  I'd like to be a geologist right now.

I found pretty rocks then I decided to just take a picture of them so they won't weigh me down.

That amazes me that à bunch of grass decided to grow there and it thrives high.

Somebody else gave up their collection.

A cave

Nope, we're not going in there.

We have some company for breakfast, can you see two seals?

Scott : Look how black is that rock.

Me : It's not a rock, it's charred wood.

Scott kicks it.

Scott and I : It's a rock.

Bon dimanche (good Sunday) my mom texted me

Bon dimanche maman!

A colony of bank swallows is nesting here.

Another swallow city. I just learned that the bigger holes belong to barn owls. Bank swallows live near them because they can't catch them and they protect them by eating their predators.

A colony of seals now.  We're watching them, they're watching us.  If they could take pictures of us I think they would. Scott calls them the cows of the sea.

The North Lighthouse

Crossing on the east side of the island.  It looks like we are in the middle of nowhere.

So pretty

Oh, hello!

This is where the waves from east and west meet.

Do you know that fresh water smells, I just realized that.  Impressive that there is a fresh water pond so close to the ocean.

Wavy house, that must be hard to do.

Here's the idea of white, red and blue rocks.

After a walk of 5 1/2 miles in 4 1/2 hours, we decided to skip the boat parade and relax at the Coast Guard Beach.

Good night!
