The trail less traveled

 THE TRAIL LESS TRAVELED

July 15, 2024.

Block Island

Scott was snoring early last night and up at sunrise.

We took a cab to the transfert station at the end of West Beach road and went on a nature walk called "The trail less traveled" with Block Island Nature Conservatory.  Kim was our guide accompanied by a young graduated in Environmental studies Veronica. We walked south on West beach.

Erosion caused by Hurricane Sandy.

Some artifacts from the natives had been found in there.

It's amazing how far up the waves went.

Our guide Kim, a life long resident of the island. Her great grandmother bought this piece of land that nobody wanted.  It created a big family feud.  That's Bin Beach, the great grandmother's name.

This is the remains of an Islander made catamaran  named Hope.

This is the old breech to the Great Salt Pond.  All men over 20 years old had to work for it. Our guide said there are a couple of salt pond in there that we are planing to explore this week.

We think that might be a tree from the Connecticut River that flooded last year.

We learned that the black sand is iron.

We walked home, refusing three offers for a lift.

That's our faces after a 2h.40 minutes walk. What did I do marrying a guy 11 years younger? 😆

After lunch and a little nap we went refreshing ourselves at Coast Guard Beach. A sea cow 😆 came to say Hello.

We watched terns and cormorans catching shiners.

After supper we go to Champlin's for ice cream and forget about the planned disco night at Captain Nick's.

Good night!
